1. Personnel Protection

Mechanics and operators can be shielded from the burns and injuries that occur when accidentally contacting super-heated exhaust components.

2. Protection of Engine Components

Wiring harnesses, hoses, and all other heat-sensitive components enjoy longer life and a higher degree of durability when not subjected to high temperatures.

3. Lower Engine Compartment/Room Temperatures

Surface temperatures of exhaust components can be reduced by up to 1000°F. with less radiated heat escaping into enclosed engine areas. The result is less maintenance of structure and equipment, and a more comfortable working environment for personnel.

4. Helps to Reduce Fires

In applications where ignitable particles are ever-present, exhaust insulation provides a safety-barrier between the hot surfaces of the exhaust system and flammable debris such as sawdust, mine dust, hydraulic fluids, and agricultural chaff.

5. Reduce Noise

In many instances the sound vibrating from an exhaust system, its fittings and connections can be attenuated by as much as 3dB of sound when properly designed exhaust insulation is installed.

6. Increase Engine Efficiency

Exhaust insulation holds the heat inside the exhaust system, but does not make the system run hotter than the exhaust gas leaving its combustion chambers. This process allows the exhaust gas to remain at a more constant temperature throughout the whole system. When exhaust gas sustains a higher average temperature, it is less dense and exits faster, adding to the thermal efficiency of the engine by providing increased turbocharger rotation, and less lag in turbocharger pickup when engine load demands are high. The result is enhanced engine performance.

7. Reduce Downtime

With properly designed and fitted thermal exhaust insulation, equipment will experience significantly less downtime resulting from engine fires, replacement of component parts, operator or mechanic injury, and recurring heat-related servicing.
